Museum Science Studies

In Museum Science Studies courses students will learn the roles that museums play in our society. They will learn about specific museums. They will learn why museums were created and how they are funded, managed, and organized.

Students will visit and evaluate museums in Los Angeles, including virtual exhibits. They will develop analytical and critical skills by reading, discussing and debating different museum exhibit collections.

Students will have the opportunity to work directly with staff from the Autry National Center to learn the seven key roles that museums must fulfill in society and the types of jobs that can be found in museums.

Once students have a strong foundation in California history, they will begin working to develop a field trip program for fourth grader students in Los Angeles area schools.  They will provide history tours of the Casa de Adobe, a replica of a traditional California rancho home.
